On any job we print using spot colours; we provide colour swatches of the specific ink mix, on the chosen stock or stocks, for approval. Rather than just matching Pantone colours, we can mix inks to match colour samples provided on the actual paper the job will be produced on.
While similar in appearance to draw-downs, our colour swatches are produced on a dedicated machine that allows us to print an accurate density of ink on the paper sample, to ensure the end result matches the swatch provided.
It is one thing to achieve the correct colour on a once off job, it is quite another to ensure consistency over numerous reprints and years. When we create a custom ink mix and colour swatch, if the colour is to be reused in the future, we maintain records not just of our specific formulae, but we keep the ink itself in storage.
This allows us to create new swatches from the old ink months later and remix the colour for the new print to ensure it matches the old. As such even with the inherent inconsistency of manufacturer supplied inks, we can still provide a consistent colour in the long term.
