The horror!
As many of you may know from my recent email, we are having some rather irksome phone troubles. By irksome I mean horrific, and by horrific I mean fairly normal by Telco standards. Essentially our phone company Commander has been partially purchased by M2 and those of us on a now defunct part of their phone network are being disconnected on the 31st of July with no guaranteed way of transferring our phone lines by that period.

At this stage we are hoping Telstra will be able to sort something out before then but there is still a good chance our phones will be disconnected and we may even lose our primary phone number (03 9525 5211). I'll be sending out further email/mail updates and updating this space as we get news. At no point will our Internet/Emails, mobiles or fax line be affected and thus if you encounter any problems contacting us on our main number please try via those means.

National Print Awards 2009
The Australian National Print Awards were held on Friday the 29th of May and was hosted by... The guy from The Price is Right! Which was, interesting. Larry Emdur I think?

Anyway, enough blogging. We achieved two awards, a gold in One, Two and Three colour printing and a bronze in Stationery. Images will be posted in the coming weeks.

UV Varnishing
Also in the next couple of weeks I'll be uploading some details of our new overall UV Varnishing machine that handles up to A1+ size sheets. Pricing of UV varnishes in quantities of up to around 2,000 will be identical to machine varnish prices!

The National Print Awards are going to be held on Friday the 29th of May this year, we've received confirmation that we've won another two awards but in a change for this year winners are not being informed of which award they won until the actual night. Unfortunately with the new system it is no longer possible to win multiple awards in the same category, but it was fun while it lasted!

Over the last few months we've continued our work on various new services we are offering and a basic list follows:
  • House stocks to ensure you get the best prices on the best range of papers.

  • Storage facilities to minimize the space you require to print economical quantities.

  • Small overruns of your regular print work so we can assist you when the pressures of work make you forget to order on time.

  • Online stock monitoring and ordering via “Formstar.”

  • Online business card changes, proofing and ordering via “Formstar.”

  • Managing part or all of your print needs with a system custom setup just for you.

  • Customise and supply your office needs from pens to coffee all via our online ordering system!

  • Colour swatches on your selected stocks for accurate PMS colour matching.

  • Stipple Comparators in a range of colours so you can visualise the outcome using a range of stipples or have one produced for your selected colour.

  • Recorded spectrometer readings for your colours to ensure consistency from print to print.

  • Our pre-press has been highly calibrated with our presses to achieve outstanding results on uncoated stocks, with colours closely matching proofs!

  • Our contacts in the industry for digital to large format printers are professional and reliable enterprises.

  • Please contact me (Jason Toth) for further information on any of the above.

We now have our article from the March issue of Desktop Magazine available as a PDF download here or via the link to the right (Environmental Responsibility).

Don't forget to check our Paper Store for a list of recommended stocks and soon we will have an update on our new online ordering/proofing system.

Effective immediately we have decided to introduce an in-house paper store. In any given year we produce work on a massive variety of different papers, but some are requested far more than others and produce very impressive results.

As such we have selected a number of papers which we believe are the best of their kind and we expect to remain available for years to come. By purchasing these in bulk we will be able to ensure constant availability as well as the best possible prices.

To encourage the use of environmentally friendly grades of paper, a number of the papers we stock will be partially or fully recycled, thus making them more affordable for everyone.

To view our selected stock lines, click here. We currently have a list of available stocks online and will be updating the list with further details over the coming weeks. Check back regularly as we will occasionally have various other stocks (ones being discontinued for example) at low prices for one-off jobs.

Also pick up a copy of the March issue of Desktop magazine for our article on environmental responsibility, without the hype.

Toth Bienk & Associates is pleased to announce that we are now a World Community Grid™ partner company. Along with 360 (as of this date) other companies and organisations across the world, we have enabled our computers to be used for scientific research via grid computing technology.

This means that whenever any of our PCs, Macs or servers are running idle or with low processor usage, they connect to the WCG and begin processing complex scientific data along with hundreds of thousands of computers across the world, effectively making one of the most power supercomputers in the world.

Please clink the link on the right or the logo above to learn more about our involvement with the WCG and how you can join our team or even create your own. For now we will have all WCG information in our Featured Projects section, pending a major site update.

    20/09/2007

Just a brief update today. We had an article about printing with Spot Colours in the August issue of Desktop Magazine. If you didn't get a chance to read the magazine, we now have the complete article online for you to view via the link on the right of this page.

Please note that the file is a 4MB PDF and may take some time to download on a slow connection.

    20/07/2007

We have three bits of news for this update. Firstly we have written an article about printing with spot colours for the August issue of Desktop Magazine which should be available in stores and going out to subscribers already. If you're visiting this site having seen the article the best place to start is by clicking the links on the right for further technical articles we have written.

As of this week we have installed a new printing press, a two colour Heidelberg Primtmaster 74. This machine will be replacing our two colour Heidelberg MO and has a larger printable area of 510x740mm. The increased speed, reduced waste and quicker setup time of this machine makes it ideal for mid-large quantity print runs with spot colours and even four colour process on heavier stocks. You can see details of our equipment on the Our Equipment page under the Technical Information menu.

And the third bit of news is that unfortunately we still haven't uploaded details and images of our latest print awards, but for now you can still see our gold medal winner in Stationery on our Samples Page.

We hope to have some new articles, our first featured project and images of our other 2007 Print Award winning jobs shortly.

    National Print Awards
The 24th Australian National Print Awards were held on Friday the 25th of May in Sydney. We received four awards in two categories, a gold and two bronze for Stationery and a silver for Two and Three Colour Printing.

It's taking us some time to get photography done, but images and details of the award winning jobs will be posted in the coming week.

In the mean time, we have uploaded the first part of our Production Process series. The first article is a basic introduction to producing a print job. Over the coming months we will be adding articles on specific aspects of the printing process and linking those to articles written by experts in each field to eventually provide a complete overview of the entire production process.
